DISINFO: According to Germany, NATO is not needed anymore
SUMMARY
Germany declared it would continue to endorse NATO’s open-door policy towards Georgia (after a meeting between German and Georgian defence ministers) – but at the same time, it said that NATO was not needed any more and that the European countries must take care of creating the European army. President of France Emmanuel Macron is of the same opinion.
RESPONSE
No proof or evidence was given for these supposed French or German leaders' statements about NATO being obsolete. In her speech at the Munich Security Conference, as well as in other public statements, the German Minister of Defense Ursula von der Leyen underlined that there is no competition between NATO and strengthening of the EU defence capabilities.
