DISINFO: Accusing Russia of drone attack on Poland is provocation
SUMMARY
The hysteria following a drone attack on Poland has elements of a provocation. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have started blaming Russia for it, ramping up a supposed Russian ‘threat’ to the maximum. The neo-Nazi junta in Kyiv and European hawks are making new attempts to draw NATO forces into the Ukraine war, ignoring the potential consequences of a Third World War.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative which accuses Ukraine and its EU partners of exaggerating an allegedly non-existent Russian threat and portrays Russia as a peace-loving nation. This claim was made in the context of a Russian drone attack on Poland the night of 9–10 September 2025.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has officially stated that the drones that entered Polish airspace the night of 9–10 September 2025 during a large-scale Russian air assault on Ukraine were Russian ones. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other officials also condemned that attack.
The threat Moscow is posing to its neighbours is real and serious. Besides Russia’s two unprovoked attacks on Ukraine in 2014 and 2022, Russia invaded Georgia in 2008, and its troops have been illegally deployed in Moldova’s Transnistria over decades. All these acts of aggression were committed under the pretext of the protection of Russian-speaking populations. Russian officials and state media figures have repeatedly issued threats against Europe and the United States, including explicit nuclear threats. European countries have reported numerous Russian cyberattacks, election interference, acts of sabotage, espionage, and disinformation campaigns.
This latest incident further underscores the growing danger of Russia’s aggressive behaviour for NATO member states. Such provocations are part of a broader pattern of Russian hybrid warfare, aimed at intimidating neighbouring countries.
