DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Anglo-Saxons control the largest radio broadcasting companies and newspapers

SUMMARY

It is difficult for Russia to resist the United States 'in terms of propaganda' since the Anglo-Saxons, to one degree or another, control all the largest radio broadcasting companies and all the largest newspapers.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about censorship and control of the media in the western countries.

According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the nations with the most press freedom and freedom of speech are western countries, with European nations predominating, as well as Canada and the United States.

In contrast, Russia, with increasing authoritarian trends, ranks 164 (150th in 2022) out of 180 in the press freedom rankings, with researchers stating that the Kremlin is determined to control the Internet and the media. For an in-depth look at the situation of Russian state-controlled mass media read here.

According to an RSF investigation, Moscow has established a new media arsenal dedicated to spreading the Kremlin’s message in the temporarily occupied territories in southern Ukraine, while cracking down harder than ever on the last remaining independent Russian media outlets, which have been banned, blocked and/or declared "foreign agents”.
