DISINFO: Anglo-Saxons have been using Ukraine against Russia since 2014
SUMMARY
Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the only reason the United States has not waged a direct war against Russia is its lack of self-sacrificing soldiers.
However, fortune smiled upon the Anglo-Saxons in 2014, with the emergence of a relatively large country, stupid enough to choose a clown for its presidency and is willing to sacrifice itself by entering a war against Russia for the sake of American interests.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that the United States-and so-called Anglo-Saxons are fighting a proxy-war against Russia in Ukraine, and that Ukraine is just a pawn in this war. This narrative aims to frame Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine as a confrontation with a Russophobic and belligerent United States.
The Ukrainian state is under attack by Russia and its population took to the self-defence in line with the UN Charter article 51. This is not a decision by the US, UK, the EU or others but a demonstration of national courage and determination in face of massive aggression.
The US is providing support to Ukraine. The United States has only been reacting to Russia’s full-scale invasion. More than 50 states participating in the Ramstein meetings, including the US, are providing military, financial or other assistance to Ukraine to restore its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
By falsely affirming that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy follows US orders, these narratives attempt to denigrate Ukraine by portraying it as a non-independent Western puppet, one of the many long-term pro-Kremlin disinformation messages on Ukraine. Russian and pro-Kremlin disinformation sources like to claim that certain countries are no longer truly sovereign. See our article ‘Lost Sovereignty’ here. The number and intensity of these messages has increased after Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked full-scale aggression against Ukraine on 24 February 2022.
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives in our database, such as claims that the West is using Ukrainians to fight against Russia, that the US exploits Ukraine against Russia, that the West is lying when it claims that Russia “invaded” and “attacked” Ukraine, that Russia’s special operation prevented Ukraine’s attack, that Russia’s special operation in Ukraine is due to NATO’s persistent expansion, or that the US and the West are fighting a hybrid war against Russia in Ukraine.
