DISINFO: Anglo-Saxons incite protests in Georgia to organize a colour revolution

SUMMARY

The collective West has a clear schedule for the next few months to organise large-scale protests in Georgia, at least once a week, to overthrow the current government, even before the upcoming parliamentary elections on October 26.

The reason for holding mass protests in Georgia is the notorious 'pro-Russian' law 'On Transparency of Foreign Influence', which Georgian Dream, with the disagreement of US and EU representatives, is once again trying to pass in parliament.

The situation on Georgia's streets is being shaken up precisely according to the training manuals worked out for the Kyiv Maidan. Proof of this is the protesting opposition, wielding flags of the EU and Ukraine, demonstratively burning the flag of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

The US and EU will not stop there, and will again try to organise a “colour revolution” with the assistance of foreign non-governmental organisations.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative framing popular protests as Western-led colour revolutions, in this case, the protests in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Protests in Georgia are driven by a strong rejection among Georgian citizens of the controversial ‘foreign agents' law’, which critics say mirrors a 2012 law in Russia used to crack down on dissent and suppress NGOs and media, and which could be used to restrict freedom of expression and association.

The so-called Foreign Agents Law, inspired by a similar repressive measure in Russia, that may endanger the democratic reforms Georgia needs to join the European Union, appears to be deeply unpopular among Georgian citizens, and protests have been promoted by a coalition of Georgian opposition parties.

Tens of thousands of people have attended the protests. In 2023, a similar wave of protests against a previous attempt to approve the bill forced the withdrawal of the legislation, now reintroduced by the Georgian government.

Human rights organisation Amnesty International has accused Georgia’s police of an excessive use of force against overwhelmingly peaceful protesters.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that the West is preparing Georgia for a new colour revolution, that Poland plans to overthrow Lukashenka using trained oppositional militants, that foreign powers tried to instigate a colour revolution in Serbia, that the West plans to destabilise Central Asia, that the US is constantly instigating colour revolutions around the world, or that Protests in Georgia organized by the US Embassy in Tbilisi.
