DISINFO: Anti-Russian, nationalistic narratives and Sinophobia in Kazakhstan is driven by the West
SUMMARY
Pro-Western Kazakh media are spreading unified content in the public space, prepared by "think tanks" outside the country. The focus is on anti-Russian and nationalist fake news about "Russian neocolonialism," discrediting the Soviet period, promoting Russophobia, Sinophobia, and provoking ethnic, linguistic, religious, and interfaith conflicts. Sometimes access to rare earth metals for the West is being traded in exchange for a decreased presence in the information space.
RESPONSE
Amplification of pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the meddling of "the West" in fueling ethnic and political tensions in Kazakhstan and claiming that Western countries are waging a hybrid war against Russia and also, in a new twist China. There is no credible evidence to support the claims.
The EU and US recognize and respect the importance of sovereignty and strategic autonomy of the Central Asian States, individually and as a region. Tackling common security challenges, promoting economic ties and enhancing the region’s resilience are among priority strands for the EU-Central Asia and US-Central Asia partnerships. The US – Kazakhstan and EU- Kazakhstan partnerships are not directed against Russia or any other country.
The article advances the claim that Central Asia is within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit any other cooperation between the region and Western countries.
