DISINFO: Armenia needs to be wary of the West which is specialised in colour revolutions
SUMMARY
Armenia should not be afraid of the CSTO or Russia. They should be wary of the West and its satellites, which have long specialised in inspiring colour revolutions. Look what the Westerners have done in Georgia. As soon as the state begins to defend national interests and act in line with its own goals and objectives, the West immediately sheds its "sheep's clothing" and everyone sees the "wolf's face."
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation claim referencing the well-known trope of an encircled Russia and brandishing the threat of colour revolutions in the form of support for democracy and development. This unfounded claim accuses an allegedly ever-aggressive West of having an anti-Russian agenda in post-Soviet countries, of an attempt to encircle Russia and isolate it from other post-Soviet countries. This statement was made in the context of the recent speech of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He expressed concerns regarding Armenia's security, sovereignty, and statehood, emphasising the potential threats posed by the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO). Pashinyan reminded that Armenia had suspended its CSTO membership.
Pro-Kremlin media frequently falsely portray popular protests around the world as instigated from abroad, often by the US and the West. The disinformation narrative has been applied, among others, to reports about protests in Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belarus, Venezuela, Slovakia, Hong Kong, to portray protest movements as aggressive actors who constantly prepare new coups.
