DISINFO: Armenian NGOs create anti-Russian sentiments
SUMMARY
Russia sees attempts to promote the interests of NATO countries in the Transcaucasia region through Armenia.
When it comes to fueling anti-Russian sentiments, it's being done artificially. Russia is aware of the numerous NGOs that have been established in Armenia in recent years, and there were quite a few even before. These organisations were not created to promote friendly relations between Armenia and the Russian Federation. Just the opposite. They are aimed at creating the ground for anti-Russian sentiments and preparing the promotion of the US the EU, and NATO interests in this region through Armenia. They are achieving some results.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative discrediting NGOs funded by international donors, presenting them as foreign agents of influence.
Since 2018, the Russian state propaganda has started an anti-Armenian campaign, calling the RA authorities and some of NGOs agents of the West and Soros. See another example, claiming that The goal of the Soros Foundation is to reformat Armenia from pro-Russian to anti-Russian.
A list of 110 undesirable NGOs and Russian foreign agents in Russia were transferred to the CIS countries, for joint “counteraction” to attempts at foreign interference.
Russia is trying to force a ban on the activities of these NGOs in other CIS countries, stating that the information transmitted can help "suppress the work of foreign intelligence services to destabilise the situation in each individual CIS state."
