DISINFO: Armenia's Pashinyan surrendered Karabakh to set fire to Russia’s borders on orders from the US

SUMMARY

In 2018, using Soros’ money and statements in the spirit of “Karabakh will be ours,” Pashinyan came to power. He resolved the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh in the simplest way possible, and immediately the streets rose up against him. As a result, 100,000 Armenian refugees and cowardly attempts to shift all responsibility for their own actions to the CSTO.

[...] America’s hand in Armenia, of course, exists.

Now, PM Pashinyan will obviously attract his Western curators to help. And how the people will behave here, whether they will remain faithful to the many years of centuries-old friendship with Russia or the West will simply crush everything under itself and start another fire there, remains an open question.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russia as the ultimate target of international events, accusing the supposedly ever-aggressive West of having an anti-Russian agenda in the Caucasus. The claim attempts to pre-empt Russia's weakening position in the region.

Pro-Kremlin media promote the idea that the Caucasus is exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit any other efforts of mediation in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This article claims that Western countries make the situation worse out of Russophobia. Western countries have made several attempts to advance a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The peaceful protests of hundreds of thousands of Armenian citizens in 2018 began in response to former president Serzh Sargsyan's running for the position of prime minister, which many citizens saw as an unjust attempt to run for a third consecutive term as president and remain the most powerful person in Armenia. Sargsyan stepped down due to public pressure and Pashinyan was elected as prime minister on 8 May and reelected in June 2021.

Philantropist George Soros' supposed role in supervising the events in post Soviet countries is a recurrent conspiracy narrative in pro-Kremlin media outlets. Pro-Kremlin media deny any possibility of grass roots protests in post-Soviet countries when they are not in favor of Russia. The EUvsDisinfo database contains over 200 entries documenting disinformation claims that accuse George Soros of all sorts of malice – from controlling Ukrainian leaders to global human trafficking schemes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Soros and Bill Gates have been falsely accused by pro-Kremlin media of inventing the virus.
