DISINFO: Behind the West's promises for Ukraine's recovery is the plan to use the country as an instrument against Russia
SUMMARY
The London fundraising conference for the recovery of Ukraine graphically manifests the hypocrisy of the collective West.
The UK and its allies don't have the courage to admit that the catastrophic situation in Ukraine is a direct result of their own actions. It is NATO countries that supported the anti-constitutional coup d’état in Kyiv in 2014, spent years sabotaging the Minsk Agreements, unleashed the proxy war against Russia and continue to nourish it lavishly with money, military advisors, intelligence, as well as ever more sophisticated armaments.
Behind its bombastic promises to rebuild Ukraine anew, the West seeks to conceal its intention to continue using Ukraine and its citizens as an instrument in its fight against Russia.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the West of destroying Ukraine's economy. This claim was made in the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2023), which was held in London on 21 and 22 June 2023, focused on mobilising international support for Ukraine's economic and social stabilisation and recovery from the effects of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion. Providing emergency assistance for immediate needs and financing private sector participation in the reconstruction process were among the topics discussed.
The conference was co-hosted by Ukraine and Britain this year, with leaders from 60 nations as well as officials from the private sector attending it. "By building Ukraine, we are building much more than one country, we are building the world," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his video remarks on 21 June.
The blame for widespread economic destruction in Ukraine falls entirely on Russia which launched its aggression with the apparent aim of blocking Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations and returning it into Moscow’s zone of influence. The West’s military, financial and diplomatic support for Ukraine is aimed at making it more successful on the battlefield and ensuring its victory over Russia as fast as possible, which will spare lives and prevent further economic destruction. Ukraine is receiving this aid with the sole aim of repelling Russian aggression, ousting the occupiers from its soil and restoring its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
