DISINFO: Belligerent Europe wants escalation of the war in Ukraine
SUMMARY
Europe has an impressive level of belligerence, as the eternal desire to resolve everything by weapons instead of admitting defeat and initiating the process of negotiations. They are out of their mind. The EU will try to re-establish old initiatives to support Ukraine, as it does not see any alternative but to escalate the conflict in Ukraine.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative aimed at portraying the EU as a warmongering and militaristic geopolitical power. This baseless claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and is presented without any supporting evidence. It seeks to shift the blame for the aggression away from Russia.
One of the aims of the EU is to promote peace, its values, and the well-being of its citizens within its borders. It is a political project that was created in the aftermath of the Second World War, intending to end the frequent and bloody conflicts that culminated in it. In 2012, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the EU because the organisation had advanced peace, reconciliation, democracy, and human rights in Europe.
EU officials have repeatedly stated that it is up to Ukraine only, as the victim of Russia’s aggression, to decide when peace talks with Russia may be possible and in which terms to end the war.
Some EU member states are providing Ukraine with military and technical assistance to help it repel Russia's aggression and restore its sovereignty over its internationally recognised borders of 1991. The war in Ukraine broke out in 2014 when Russia illegally annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea and instigated a separatist revolt in some regions in the east of Ukraine. On 24 February 2022, Russia began its unprovoked and unjustified full invasion of Ukraine under several false pretexts.
