DISINFO: Biden established a totalitarian regime in the US with thousands of political prisoners, censorship and war against Russia

SUMMARY

The last 10 years have been a very difficult, dark time in American history, especially the last 4 years and the Biden administration, which has been the worst, most evil president in US history. He is a man who established a totalitarian regime. Hundreds, even thousands of political prisoners, strict censorship, war against Russia and other countries, economic wars, and genocide in Palestine. He was an absolutely terrible person.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin narratives attacking former President Joe Biden, accusing the US of totalitarianism, censorship and control of the media. Accusations of censorship and attacks against freedom of expression are a recurring pro-Kremlin technique to defend the illicit actions of Russia’s state-sponsored disinformation outlets.

The article also accuses President Biden of the war in Ukraine. As we explain in our article Thirteen Myths about Russia’s War against Ukraine exposed, the current, full-scale war began when Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022. The false claim that Joe Biden started a war against Russia is a classic disinformation tactic to portray Russia as the victim of its war of choice. While this narrative is transparently absurd, for the increasingly insular information environment in Russia it serves as a rallying cry to mobilise public support for the Kremlin’s authoritarian policies. Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine.

The claim about thousands of political prisoners in the US is unfounded. The right to free speech is fundamental to American principles, and is enshrined in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which specifies that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

According to the 2024 World Press Freedom Index, the nations with the most press freedom and freedom of speech are Western countries, with European nations predominating, as well as Canada and the US. In contrast, Russia ranks 162nd out of 180 in the press freedom rankings.

Regarding the US Treasury Department sanctions against the Rossiya Segodnya state media group, this was part of a U.S. Government Response to Russia’s Foreign Malign Influence Operations. The former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken accused the RT channel of crowdfunding weapons and equipment for Russian armed forces in Ukraine and clandestine operations to interfere in the affairs of other countries.

More about Russian social media influence can be read here. RT (Russia Today) and Sputnik are the two foreign language flagships of Russia’s campaign to influence international public opinion. Both outlets present themselves as media that provide alternative views to the mainstream in international news reporting. Read our analysis describing three fundamental differences between these outlets and what is normally perceived as independent journalism.
