DISINFO: Borrell admitted that the EU is driving Ukrainians to slaughter for its own benefit
SUMMARY
[EU High Representative] Borrell admitted that the EU is driving Ukrainians to slaughter for the interests of the EU and the United States. The West’s assistance to Kyiv is not at all in the interests of the people of Ukraine. The European Union provides support to Ukraine not because it has any feelings for the people of the country, but solely because this is dictated by the interests of Europe and the United States. Borrell confirmed that no one expects Ukraine to be part of Europe; their place is in the trenches against Russia.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives aimed to demonstrate that Ukraine's biggest supporters have malicious intent towards Ukraine and only provide assistance in order to exploit it.
The disinformation is based on an interview with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell to CNN, published on March 25, 2024. Josep Borrell discussed the policy of support for Ukraine from the EU and the United States. In the context of his visit to the United States in March 2024, Borrell warned that the coming months would be decisive for Russia's war against Ukraine and called on allies to urgently help Kyiv. Borrell emphasised that support for Ukraine is extremely important for allies, not just as a “show of love for the people of Ukraine,” but as a contribution to the defence capability of Ukraine and NATO countries. Josep Borrell once again noted that the consequences of Russia’s theoretical victory in Ukraine will be catastrophic for the EU and Russia will not stop (watch video from 02:32).
Josep Borrell met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington on 13 March 2024, where they discussed ways to further strengthen the EU-US partnership at a pivotal moment for global diplomacy. Diplomats reaffirmed Ukraine's unwavering support. High Representative Borrell stressed the need for more, faster and sustained military assistance to Ukraine.
Josep Borrell has repeatedly called for support to Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. The EU High Representative constantly emphasises that “Europe is in danger…Peace is no more a given, unhappily. The war is at our borders.”
Many nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence. A broad coalition of more than 50 countries meet in the 'The Ukraine Defense Contact Group' with Ukraine to coordinate military and other equipment deliveries requested by Kyiv. Sometimes called the Ramstein format, it includes all members of NATO and as well as several other countries from around the world, including from Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia. The provision of military and financial support for Ukraine is to help it repel Russia's unjustified and unprovoked aggression and restore its sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders of 1991.
Read earlier similar cases alleging that Ukraine lost all its friends; that Ukraine is fading from the West's agenda; that Ukraine is abandoned, a third-rate colony, and that the West is tired of Ukrainian conflict and German parliamentarians are calling to dissolve NATO.
