DISINFO: Borrell admitted that the West knows how to end the war, but they don’t want to
SUMMARY
The West does not need to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine.
The head of the EU's diplomatic service, Josep Borrell, one of the key EU officials, admitted that the West knows how to really and quickly end the war, but does not want to.
In other words, the EU’s chief diplomat essentially stated: even if all of Ukraine burns in the fire of war, [the EU] will not let Russia win. Moreover, there is an urgent need to add even more fuel to this fire in the form of arms supplies to the regime in Kyiv and the militarisation of the EU itself.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine, attacking EU leaders and accusing the West of warmongering. This is a classic Kremlin tactic – misrepresentation and twisting of context. This is a distortion of the lecture by EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell, given at Oxford University on 2 May 2024.
In his speech titled 'Europe Faced with Two Wars,' Borrell stated that the EU does not want a humiliating capitulation for Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian existence depends on us. I know how to finish the war in Ukraine. I can finish the war in Ukraine in a couple of weeks just by cutting the supply. If I cut the supply of arms to Ukraine, Ukraine cannot resist, they will have to surrender, and the war will finish. But is this the way we want the war to finish? I do not want [that], and I hope that many people in Europe do not want [that] either."
