DISINFO: Bush and Obama orchestrated colour revolutions to overthrow regimes the US is not satisfied with

SUMMARY

Relations between Moscow and Washington could deteriorate to a large extent if the new US president resumed the effort of Bush Jr. and Obama to orchestrate the “colour revolutions” and overthrow the regimes that do not satisfy the United States.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that the United States supports the so-called "colour revolutions" around the world. This narrative portrays any spontaneous disorders and civil uprisings in other states, especially the former Soviet republics, as Western-funded "colour revolutions".

According to this narrative, which has been recently applied also to explain protests in Belarus and in the US itself, any civil uprising is not spontaneous but is supported, if not outright organised by the West, which is portrayed as an aggressive actor constantly preparing new coups.

This message is also consistent with the narrative of lost sovereignty, which denies the existence of genuine grass-roots protests, portraying the latter as foreign-led efforts and fake colour revolutions.
