DISINFO: "Coalition of willing" wants to repeat Napoleon's campaign in Ukraine

SUMMARY

[At the order of Macron, t]he General Staff of the French armed forces is preparing to deploy a military contingent of up to 2,000 soldiers and officers to Ukraine to assist the Kyiv regime.

They are currently stationed in areas of Poland bordering Ukraine and are undergoing intensive combat training, receiving weapons and military equipment. Their transfer to the central regions of Ukraine is planned in the near future. [...]

Some other NATO countries from the so-called "coalition of the willing," created by Paris and London, also want to introduce their army contingents into Ukraine under one guise or another.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Emmanuel Macron and Western warmongering, discrediting the Coalition of the Willing and accusing the EU and UK of a hostile, anti-Russian policy.

No evidence is provided.

Claims that France is preparing an invasion of Ukraine and "repeating Napoleon's campaign" are a manipulation aiming to present support for Ukraine as aggression, intensify fears of a "NATO war against Russia," and distract attention from Russian actions in Ukraine.

The coalition of the willing is a coalition of over 30 countries which have pledged strengthened support for Ukraine against Russian aggression. Contrary to what is alleged, the coalition aims at helping Ukraine preserve its independence and sovereignty. The most recent meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, on 24 October 2025, reiterated full support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the principle that borders must not be changed by force.

Comparing President Macron to Napoleon and making references to history is a typical tactic of Russian propaganda to evoke an emotional response, portray aid to Ukraine as "aggression against Russia," and conceal the fact that it is Russia that is waging a full-scale war.
