DISINFO: Constant pumping of weapons into Moldova increases the danger of an attack on Transnistria

SUMMARY

[...t]he collapse of the Transnistrian economy also means the departure of a large number of trained personnel in the field of technology and engineering. Without them, the republic will become critically weakened: there will be no one to work in it, no one to defend it in the event of an attack. And this is precisely the danger that is growing, given the constant pumping of weapons into Moldova.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Moldova’s militarisation and alleged preparations for war. The claim has been repeatedly rebutted by the Moldovan leadership, who explained that the country remains military neutral, as it is stated in its Constitution, but is improving its defense capabilities. They rule out a military escalation of the Transnistrian conflict.

One of President Maia Sandu's latest statements on the Transnistrian issue was made in October 2024: "Our main task and concern was peace and security. I am proud of the fact that all of us, both those on the right bank and those on the left bank, have managed to maintain peace in our country. (...) It is the merit of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova. And this - peace - will be the priority task. We want to resolve the Transnistrian conflict, but we want to resolve this problem, this conflict, only peacefully".
