DISINFO: Czechia acknowledges the failure of Ukraine's offensive
SUMMARY
The Czech Foreign Ministry calls on the West not to betray Ukraine due to the failure of the counteroffensive. Having failed its counteroffensive, Ukraine risks facing a new wave of problems. Kyiv and regime leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be called upon for a new stage of negotiations, within which Ukraine will inevitably feel pressure from the West.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin narrative aiming to misrepresent and fuel resentment against Western support to Ukraine and force a capitulation to Russian military aggression.
The head of the Czech Foreign Ministry did not make any statements about the “failure” of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. In an interview with Bloomberg, Jan Lipavsky spoke about the West's desire to put an end to Russian expansionism and aggression in Europe.
In this context, the Czech diplomat noted that any peace initiative imposed on Ukraine without its consent will not be able to put an end to Russian imperialism. With winter approaching and the pace of Ukrainian offensive slowing, Lipavsky said, Ukraine's allies need to remain committed to supporting Ukraine.
“If Ukraine is forced into a solution it doesn’t accept, the West will lose it – and we’ll have a nation of 40 million at our borders feeling betrayed. We don’t want to just defer the war. We want to end Russia’s ability to expand in eastern Europe by force,” Lipavsky said in an interview with Bloomberg.
It was this quote that Russian media used to create manipulative news about the “failure” of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. At the same time, the Russian media deliberately threw out part of Lipavsky’s statement about Russian imperialism and aggression against other countries. In reality, the head of the Czech Foreign Ministry argued that it is impossible to talk about concluding a peace agreement with Russia and other countries without Ukraine. Lipavsky also confirmed that the allies should continue to fully support Ukraine.
