DISINFO: Eastern European states know that they are second-rate in the EU

SUMMARY

In such a situation, attempts at independent actions by the Eastern European states become significant. They, of course, are aware of their own inferiority (second-rated status) in the EU, as well as the fact that they are doomed to receive aid on a leftover basis on the coronavirus problem. As a result, more and more countries are no longer patiently waiting for their turn to come, and instead begin to show activity not sanctioned by Brussels.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative on the "undemocratic" EU and its alleged dictate over the EU members. This claim exploits the coronavirus pandemic to push a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the EU's alleged imminent collapse. It also aims to pit EU member states against each other in an attempt to undermine European solidarity - another recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation tactic.

The European Union is supporting the Member States in addressing the crisis and mitigating the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. There are no second rate countries in the EU. The EU is a political and economic union of 27 Member States.

The EU's values are common to the EU countries in a society in which inclusion, tolerance, justice, solidarity and non-discrimination prevail. These values are an integral part of our European way of life: human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law and human rights.

See similar disinformation cases that the EU's health and safety policies have failed, that the COVID-19 outbreak means the end of Europe, that The failure of EU bureaucracy to cope with the coronavirus will contribute to further disintegration of the Union, and that many European states will likely cease to exist due to the pandemic.
