DISINFO: Epstein case shows the West refuses to investigate crimes involving global elites

SUMMARY

The West refuses to investigate even the most obvious crimes when global elites are involved, as in the case of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

RESPONSE

This is part of a wider pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign exploiting the publication by the US Department of Justice of documents related to the investigation on the late convicted criminal Jeffrey Epstein to promote pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives and attack actors that Russia deems as adversaries.

While the investigation process on Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal actions remains marred in controversy, the claim made in this disinformation story is patently false. After the release of 3 million documents of the Epstein files, multiple countries including the UK, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, France Norway and Turkey have started their own investigations on these potential crimes, and the revelations have led to the resignation of dozens of officials in Europe. By ignoring these facts and through this manipulative and baseless allegation, this disinformation story aims to advance a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about corrupt elites opposed to the people, aiming to undermine confidence in political systems, especially democracies.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that European top officials convened in Paris to discuss a list of high-ranking paedophiles, that Jeffrey Epstein said the coup in Ukraine should provide many opportunities, that US elites are rapists and the Deep State covered up P. Diddy sex scandal, that celebrities support US imperialism after being blackmailed about Diddy’s sex parties, or that US political elites protect and defend paedophiles.
