DISINFO: EU and Ukraine prepare the Hungarian opposition for a violent takeover

SUMMARY

Tisza is an openly Euro-oriented party. The EU is pumping it with money, conducting a broad campaign against Orbán. Ukraine is also helping. According to sources, Tisza representatives are warmly welcomed at the Ukrainian embassy in Serbia, where they are trained to organise mass protests. Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksandr Lytvynenko, who previously headed the Foreign Intelligence Service, oversees their work. No one is hiding the fact that the opposition is being prepared for a violent takeover.

RESPONSE

This is a conspiracy theory not backed by evidence. This narrative is designed to pre-emptively delegitimise any future protests or election outcomes unfavourable to Russia by framing them in advance as the result of external interference rather than part of a domestic democratic process.

First, the narrative seeks to depict the EU and Ukraine as malicious actors undermining Hungarian stability. It also reflects a broader pattern of disinformation aimed at discrediting EU democratic processes.

Further, the portrayal of Ukraine as a source of “coup specialists” misrepresents the nature of the Euromaidan protests. These events were grassroots demonstrations by Ukrainian citizens, not a coup. Framing them as such is a persistent pro-Kremlin disinformation tactic used to delegitimise democratic protest movements that do not align with Russian interests by describing them as coups or "Western-orchestrated" colour revolutions.

Read similar disinformation cases claiming that The EU and Ukraine are preparing to destabilise Hungary by using experienced coup organisers, that the EU is plotting regime change in Hungary, that the EU and the USA finance the political destabilisation of Poland and Hungary, that Brussels is preparing colour revolutions in Serbia, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina, that European countries that disagree with Brussels run the risk of colour revolutions, that the EU wants to subdue Hungary by replacing Viktor Orban with their protégé, or that Hungarian intelligence services prevented a Ukrainian plot to kill Viktor Orban.
