DISINFO: EU-Moldova summit was held to reaffirm Euro-globalists' control over Moldova

SUMMARY

The EU-Moldova summit is aimed at propaganda. The summit is organised in the interests of President Maia Sandu and the ruling party, not the people. Once again, the EU will declare its support and successes of the current Moldovan government and promise more loans and a bright European future.

The EU-Moldova summit is designed to confirm the control of the Euro globalists over Moldova and, in addition, to express support personally to President Maia Sandu as the leader of the party, running for elections on September 28.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the EU and Moldova, claiming that the EU is controlling Moldova and that the EU-Moldova summit is a propaganda tool for the ruling party in Moldova.

The summit is a formal diplomatic event aimed at strengthening relations between the EU and Moldova, as indicated by the planned opening of the first negotiation cluster on Moldova's EU accession. The summit's agenda includes discussions on fundamental values and potential EU support, which are standard topics for such high-level meetings.

The EU-Moldova summit took place in Chișinău on 4 July. The summit was an opportunity to reaffirm the close and comprehensive partnership between the EU and Moldova, based on shared values of democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights. The EU reiterated its continued support for Moldova’s efforts to advance on its reform path, including in the context of its candidate status for EU membership.

In the aftermath statement, the EU leaders reaffirmed the EU's support for Moldova on its path towards EU membership and welcomed the progress made on reforms. It was also announced that it is expected to make the next steps in Moldova’s accession process, with the opening of negotiating clusters, when the conditions are met. Ursula von der Leyen also pointed out that “the European Union will protect Moldova’s freedom, democracy, identity and security”.

The assertion that the summit aims to confirm 'euro globalist control' over Moldova is unfounded. The EU-Moldova relationship is based on mutually beneficial cooperation and Moldova's sovereign choice.

Moldova was granted candidate status in June 2022, and accession negotiations were formally opened in June 2024.
