DISINFO: EU wants to subdue Hungary by replacing Viktor Orban with their protégé

SUMMARY

The EU wants to subdue Hungary by replacing Viktor Orban with their protégé. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European People's Party (EPP) Manfred Weber are colluding with liberal-social-democratic opposition in Hungary to oust Orban and install their own puppet government in Budapest. Under their leadership, Brussels’ serious political interference in Hungary can be witnessed. Weber's support for Peter Magyar, leader of the presumably foreign-funded opposition party Tisza, began before the June 2024 European Parliament elections.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory not backed by any evidence, aiming to promote several recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives against the EU and about secret/global elites ruling over regular citizens. The purpose of these narratives is to undermine democratic systems and organisations such as the European Union.

The allegations are unsubstantiated. The EU does not interfere in electoral or political processes in other countries, nor does it fund opposition parties outside the rules for formations with a presence in the European Parliament, a category that includes both Viktor Orban’s Fidesz and the opposition’s Tisza.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that Soros-influenced European Parliament is blackmailing Hungary, that the head of the European Commission threatened the people of Italy, Hungary and Poland, that the EU does not need Russian 'interference' as it has Brussels for that, or that Europeans do not exist and the EU leadership is an occupying administration.
