DISINFO: Euromaidan was a coup d’etat of the Right Sector and Ukrainian Nazis, supported by the CIA and Poland

SUMMARY

The 2014 uprising in Ukraine known as Euromaidan was a coup d’etat conducted by the Right Sector (Pravyi Sektor) and followers of Nazi Stepan Bandera, sponsored by the CIA and the Polish government.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative that claims Euromaidan was a coup, organized by Nazis and foreign states. The protest movement known as Euromaidan, which lasted from the end of November 2013 until the end of February 2014, was a genuine uprising of the Ukrainian people against the government of former President Yanukovych who, with a U-turn decision, decided not to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union that he had promised for years. The role of the nationalist forces was marginal. Euromaidan was a civic initiative. The insignificance of the "Right Sector" is evident from the election results – their candidate received 0.7% of the vote in the May 2014 presidential elections, and the party received 1.8% of the vote in the October 2014 parliamentary elections.
