DISINFO: Europe is not interested in peace in Ukraine
SUMMARY
Despite the negotiation process that has begun between Moscow and Kyiv, Western countries continue to interfere in the conflict.
They [Europe] are not interested in peace, they are interested in the implementation of their plans, and their plans are the absorption of Ukraine as a raw materials or agricultural appendage, a country where there is something to profit from. The plans for Russia have not ended either, they have not disappeared: Europe still wants to profit at our expense.

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets, accusing the European countries of warmongering and a lack of desire to achieve peace. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This article is part of a wider disinformation campaign portraying Europe as a warmongering actor who intends to continue the war in Ukraine even as other actors carry out peace negotiations. This campaign, which accelerated after the second Trump Administration expressed interest in negotiating directly with Russia in early 2025, also aims to exacerbate tensions between Transatlantic allies by framing the EU as desperate to continue the war for its own spurious interests, in contrast to supposedly “peace-oriented” actors such as the US or Russia.
There is no evidence that the European countries are not interested in ending the war in Ukraine. These countries have consistently called for peace while supporting Ukraine's sovereignty.
Additionally, EU officials have repeatedly stated that it is up to Ukraine only, as the victim of Russia’s aggression, to decide when peace talks with Russia may be possible and in which terms to end the war. The European Union is committed to achieving a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine, ensuring that Kyiv’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected.
Pro-Kremlin disinformation has systematically instrumentalised the narrative that Russia wants peace in Ukraine in contrast to the West, but, as evidenced by Russia's actions in Ukraine, such statements are merely empty PR stunts deployed to garner support for Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.
This message is part of a wider disinformation campaign framing possible US-Russia negotiations as the only acceptable ‘peace initiative’ regardless of Russia’s ultimatums, while denying any agency to Ukraine or its other allies. Pro-Kremlin disinformation has long tried to misrepresent the EU as the main obstacle for ‘peace’ in Ukraine.
Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically elected president and parliament. The country's sovereignty has been violated only as a result of continuous acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces since 2014, culminating with a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine starting on 24 February 2022. Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities.
The US, the EU and NATO condemn, in the strongest possible terms, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked. Not only Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
