DISINFO: Europe is turning into a concentration camp

SUMMARY

Europe is turning into a concentration camp. Although the current geopolitical changes have led to a new reality in which Europe has ceased to be an important international factor, the European establishment acts as if nothing has changed. The EU is a system that subordinates citizens to elites and corporations. National states are losing their independence under the influence of global structures․ Brussels is building something similar to the IV Reich, adjusted for opportunities and geopolitics.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory, and recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the EU of Nazism, as well as the narrative about secret global elites that dominate the world, control governments, rob nations of their sovereignty, oppress the masses, and seek to establish a World Government.

It perpetuates a substantiated pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the alleged lost sovereignty of the EU and its member states (see more examples). Pro-Kremlin outlets often portray European states as vassals, puppet states, or colonies of the US, NATO, or transatlantic corporations.

The assertion that Europe has ceased to be an important international factor is not supported by current geopolitical analyses, which show Europe remains a significant player in global politics and economics.

The article draws absurd parallels between the EU and Nazi Germany by referring to the EU as the “European Reich” which corresponds to the frequent Nazi-labelling disinformation technique used by pro-Kremlin outlets.

It has been used by Russia to justify the invasion of Ukraine by portraying it as a “denazification operation”. Russia spent years preparing the information battleground before its full-scale kinetic attack, with “Nazi Ukraine” being one of its most prominent disinformation features.

The EU was founded after WWII to promote peace, democracy, human rights, economic cooperation, social justice and cultural diversity. EU founding treaties emphasise economic cooperation to prevent future wars. Founders of the EU, such as Robert Schuman, Jean Monnet, and Konrad Adenauer, were all active opponents of Nazi Germany. Part of their opposition to Nazism was the EU project itself, thinking that by establishing a political and economic union between European countries, they can ensure ideologies such as Nazism never rise again.
