DISINFO: European NATO members nurture Nazi Ukraine as an anti-Russian instrument
SUMMARY
European NATO members are willfully ignoring the Nazi character of the Ukrainian government, which they have empowered as an anti-Russian instrument. Those Nazis have been nurtured for the latest attempt to unite all of Europe under racist, Nazi banners for a war against the Russian Federation.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about ‘Nazi Ukraine’ and the conflict in this country as a proxy war aimed to destabilize Russia. Labelling Russia’s adversaries as Nazis is a frequently used pro-Kremlin disinformation technique, and has been used by Russia to try to justify the invasion of Ukraine by portraying it as a “denazification operation”.
By mentioning only “European NATO members” and not the US, this disinformation story also aims to exploit discrepancies between the US and Europe regarding the war in Ukraine, in order to portray the EU as the main obstacle for ‘peace’ in contrast to a Trump presidency focused on engaging Russia to end the war. This is part of a wider disinformation campaign, which accelerated after Donald Trump’s electoral victory in November 2024, portraying Europe as a warmongering actor who intends to continue the war in Ukraine even as other actors carry out peace negotiations.
Claims about the war Ukraine as directed by foreign actors against Russia are an attempt to deflect Russia’s responsibility for its brutal and unprovoked aggression against its neighbour (see here, here and here for full debunking of this allegation).
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that Nazi Europe's fight against Russia via Ukraine is a fight against the memory of Nazi defeat, that London’s support for Nazi Ukraine is a shame, that Paris officially supports terrorism and neo-Nazism, that fascism is the core value of Europe, that Nazi Ukraine poses a threat to Russia, or that Russia is not an aggressor but a victim of Western Nazism.
