DISINFO: Europeans maniacally support the Nazi Bandera Kyiv regime

SUMMARY

Has Europe's manic desire to support the Bandera regime begun to change?

The European Union is now holding its breath, closely monitoring how the American domestic political crisis will ultimately end. After all, in the US, two almost equal opponents - Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris - have met in an open boxing clinch.

And the future fate of the Europeans themselves, with their manic desire to support the openly Nazi, Bandera regime in Kyiv, depends on how this fight of "giants of civilisational thought" ends.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets about Nazi Ukraine, accusing the EU of supporting Nazism.

The article also advances the narrative that Europe is a US puppet and that European nations are not independent in their foreign policy.

Labelling Russia’s adversaries as Nazis is a widespread pro-Kremlin disinformation technique, and has been used by Russia to try to justify the invasion of Ukraine by portraying it as a “denazification operation”. Russia spent years preparing the information battleground before its kinetic attack, with “Nazi Ukraine” being one of its most prominent disinformation features.

In reality, Ukraine is not a Nazi state, does not have a Nazi ruling elite and Nazism is not Ukraine’s ideology. Read a more detailed debunk here, as well as our analysis titled "Why does Putin portray himself as the tamer of neo-Nazism" and Nazi east, Nazi west, Nazi over the cuckoo's nest.

The myth of Nazi-ruled Ukraine appeared during the Euromaidan popular protests in late 2013 - early 2014, falsely presented in pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets as a coup. The Kremlin has been using this myth since then to discredit Ukraine's shift towards Euro-Atlantic policy.

Nazi ideology was banned by Ukrainian law in 2015. Far-right groups had a very limited presence during the 2014 Euromaidan demonstrations and even gained poor results in the 2014 presidential and parliamentary elections. In 2019, the far-right parties gained only 2.15% of the vote, far short of the 5% threshold needed to enter Parliament. The fact that Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is of Jewish decent, won the 2019 presidential election with 73 per cent voter support is enough evidence to dispel any myths about a Nazi Ukraine.

The US has no authority over EU decisions. Being close partners, the EU and the US have similar visions on many international problems, including Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine. The EU and the US are unanimous in supporting Kyiv and providing it with military, technical and economic assistance.
