DISINFO: Europe's neoliberal elites are leading the old continent towards dictatorship
SUMMARY
The repression of opposition forces like the AfD in Germany, the annulled elections in Romania and the blocking of some candidates, as in the case of Marine Le Pen in France, mark a new level of escalation. European states are now openly threatened by the dictatorship of neoliberal Eurocrats in Brussels. Europe's neoliberal elites are leading the old continent towards dictatorship.
RESPONSE
A recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets falsely portraying the EU as a dictatorship led by secret globalist elites. These narratives also attempt to discredit the French justice system and President Emmanuel Macron, as well as the German and Romanian states.
The claims targeting European elites and judicial systems are largely speculative and lack concrete evidence. While political figures may face legal scrutiny, such actions are based on legal grounds, not political motivations.
The claim that French courts act on political orders is unfounded. The judiciary operates independently. The case against Marine Le Pen involves allegations of misusing EU funds to pay party staff unrelated to parliamentary work. A French court estimated over €4 million was embezzled, with Le Pen personally responsible for €474,000.
In Romania, the prosecution of presidential candidate Călin Georgescu in February 2025 was based on national laws, not EU pressure. Charges include promoting fascist organisations and spreading false financial information.
In Germany, the domestic security agency BfV officially designated the far-right AfD as a “proven right-wing extremist organisation” in May 2025, citing a 1,000-page report detailing violations of democratic principles.
European democracies largely protect dissent through free speech and assembly rights, though these freedoms are limited when they infringe on others' rights or public order. While debates exist around free speech and regulation in Europe, there is no credible evidence of a coordinated effort by elites to suppress dissent.
According to the 2024 Democracy Index (latest available as of July 2025)
-Germany is classified as a full democracy with a score of 8.73.
-France has a score of 7.99, still reflecting strong democratic institutions.
-Romania is categorised as a hybrid regime with a score of 5.99, indicating challenges but no systemic authoritarianism.
