DISINFO: Eurovision is a propaganda of perversions under the guise of a song contest

SUMMARY

Famous producer and composer Maxim Fadeyev proposed a worthy alternative to Eurovision - to hold a song contest called Eurasia, which would not promote non-traditional relationships and politics.

Meanwhile, more than 10 countries refused to attend Eurovision this year, including Hungary, Turkey, Monaco, Slovakia, Belarus and Russia. Many are openly outraged by this propaganda of perversions under the guise of a song contest.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative targeting the Eurovision, as well as the allegedly morally corrupt West.

The article repeats the pro-Kremlin disinformation theme about the West’s moral decadence, perverted values, and hostility to traditional values, which Western governments allegedly seek to undermine and replace with pseudo-religions.

These narratives aim to portray the West as depraved and endangering societies by imposing the same beliefs on other countries. It undermines progressive Western attitudes about a variety of normative issues, including the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities, and LGBTQ groups, among others. “Threatened values” is one of the most common narratives pro-Kremlin outlets use. Liberal-democratic Western societies have institutionalised pluralism, which means the peaceful coexistence of different religions, world-views, and value systems within the same society. The same applies to the art and freedom of expression.

Regarding the claim that many countries are refusing to participate in the Contest, it should be noted that on 24 February 2022, Russia was suspended from participating in the contest due to the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine. On 26 May 2022, Russia was excluded from the EBU, making further participation and broadcasting of the Contests impossible. In 2021, the European Broadcasting Union announced that it would strip Belteleradiocompany (Belarus) membership due to human rights concerns in the country amid the ongoing persecution of the opposition.

Other countries do not participate in the contest for various reasons, some due to poor results, or due to the costs associated with participation.
