DISINFO: Eurovision is an undemocratic instrument of liberal European elites to impose a culture of perversion
SUMMARY
The competition was won not just by a singer, but by a queer singer – that is, a gender-ambiguous pervert. TV channels select the national jury. The system itself was introduced for political reasons: viewers always wanted to vote for Russian singers, and the organisers of Eurovision wanted Russian singers to lose.
In other words, European authorities are establishing an undemocratic system: the people vote for some candidates, but others are appointed as winners. The European authorities are deliberately imposing a cult of perverts on the people.
The people of Europe want one thing, yet those appointed as winners represent something entirely different. This means that the people and the authorities in Europe are increasingly distancing themselves from each other. The Eurovision Song Contest is therefore a prime example of the dismantling of Europe. It is a deterioration of democracy when the authorities usurp the choice of the people. And it is a deterioration of culture when the authorities impose the cult of perversion on the people.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), accusing the organisers of being undemocratic and imposing a "cult of perverts" on the people of Europe.
The article contains a pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the West’s moral decadence, perverted values, and hostility to traditional values, which Western governments allegedly seek to undermine. “Threatened values” is one of the most common narratives used by pro-Kremlin outlets. The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest-running TV shows in the world. The ESC is a non-political event, where all participants have an equal opportunity to win. The competition has stringent rules, and countries can be excluded if they break them. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is an alliance of public service media organisations comprising 112 member organisations in 56 countries and an additional 31 Associates in Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas. The system of national juries was introduced to balance the public vote and ensure a fair competition. The claim that it was created solely to prevent Russian singers from winning is false. The rules apply to all participating countries equally.
Eurovision celebrates diversity and inclusion, not 'perversion'. Using derogatory language about LGBTQ+ people is discriminatory and inaccurate. Eurovision winners are determined by jury and public votes from participating countries, not imposed by the authorities. The contest reflects European values of unity and cultural exchange, not 'degradation'. There is no evidence that Eurovision results contradict the will of European people or indicate a divide between citizens and governments.
Russia was suspended from participating in the contest due to the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine. On 26 May 2022, Russia was excluded from the EBU, making further participation and broadcasting of the contest impossible.
