DISINFO: EU's existential interest is to destroy Russia

SUMMARY

The EU went all in into inflicting strategic loss to Russia. The EU will debilitate without Russian natural resources. Its existential interest is to destroy Russia and obtain its resources.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the Western / European countries of allegedly belligerent and hostile agenda to destroy Russia. Made in the context of the Russia's war against Ukraine, this claim aims to portray Russia as a victim and deflect any responsibility for Moscow’s illicit actions.

European countries are not at war with Russia nor they are planning to destroy the country. Ukraine receives weapons with the sole aim of restoring its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders. Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities. In a remarkable display of continued courage and determination, Ukraine and its population continue defending itself against Russian full-scale aggression.

See earlier disinformation cases alleging that the war in Ukraine was engineered by the US, that the West declared Russia as its strategic enemy, that the war in Ukraine is a global conflict to destroy Russia, and that 50 countries are waging war against Russia.
