DISINFO: Everything that is not LGBT will soon be forbidden in France

SUMMARY

The new French Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, became an MP thanks to his lover Stéphane Séjourné, a close adviser of Emmanuel Macron and now Foreign Affairs minister. The composition of the new government proves that civilisation has broken down in France. LGBT values have become the norm, and non-LGBT identification will soon be erased from public life because it might offend the LGBT community, the new ruling class. Authors and artists like Balzac, Flaubert, Stendhal, Maupassant, Françoise Sagan, André Maurois, and Aznavour will be discarded as garbage, and femininity and masculinity will be forbidden as they constitute a threat to LGBT values.

RESPONSE

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about 'Gayropa' alleging a moral decay of Europe because of rights granted to sexual minorities and the fact that politicians publicly admit their sexual orientation. This message aims to portray Russia as superior to the West in terms of values and morals. 'Threatened values' is one of the most common narratives used by pro-Kremlin outlets.

Tolerance towards minorities is one of the fundamental principles of European democracies and the rule of law. Democracy is not the tyranny of the majority, but rather the power of the majority that respects the rights of minorities. Respecting minorities is not a threat to the majority. This principle has been recognised since the publication of Voltaire's treatise on tolerance on the occasioned by the death of Jean Calas in 1763, and John Stuart Mill's work On liberty (1859) .

French artists who have created works about the theme of love and are admired in Russia, such as Balzac, Flaubert, Stendhal, Maupassant, Françoise Sagan, André Maurois, and Aznavour, are not perceived as a threat to LGBT rights.

The current Russian approach towards minorities is particularly aggressive: ethnic and social minorities are predominantly those who die at the front, and sexual minorities face discrimination. This could be interpreted as an attempt to distract the population from discontent. However, denying the rights of minorities does not grant unlimited rights to the majority.
