DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Facebook has hired Ukrainian Right Sector supporters as chief censors for its Russian language segment

SUMMARY

There is full-scale political and ideological censorship there (in the EU). For its Russian language segment, Facebook has hired Ukrainian Right Sector supporters as chief censors. No wonder Nazi texts stay (online) but posts about the Holocaust get censored. Very much like the OPCW statement which speaks of an unknown substance but attributes it to Russia and claims [Navalny] was poisoned in Russia.

RESPONSE

A mixture of false claims presented without any evidence. Facebook has not hired "Ukrainian Right Sector supporters". In certain countries and regions, Facebook works with third-party fact-checkers who are certified through the non-partisan International Fact-Checking Network to help identify and review false information. For example, in Ukraine, StopFake and VoxCheck help Facebook to identify fake news. So far, Facebook said that, based on the work of independent fact-checking organisations, it has labelled 40 million Facebook posts with warnings that the content may be false. For background of legitimate criticism towards fact-checkers, see for example here. Read a similar case: "Disinfo: Facebook uses Ukrainian Nazis to fight Russian presence". According to the Data of press freedom ranking 2020 most of the EU countries have the best press freedom index score.
