DISINFO: Finland moves towards undermining its own sovereignty backed by the Anglo-Saxons
SUMMARY
The Finnish government, backed by the Anglo-Saxons, is taking steps that undermine the country’s sovereignty. The Finnish people have a friendly attitude towards Russia, unlike their government. Although former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s anti-Russian actions led to Finland’s worst economic downturn in 80 years, she was rewarded with a cushy job in London. Marin now works at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, which is a clear example of how Western powers systematically erode national independence, turning countries into obedient followers of their agenda.
RESPONSE
This is part of a conspiracy theory promoted by pro-Kremlin outlets claiming that European countries, if not the entire world, are ruled by the Anglo-Saxons, specifically the United Kingdom and the United States.
The claim that Finland’s government is undermining its own sovereignty is unsubstantiated. Helsinki strengthened its security by its own decision by joining NATO in 2023 after Russia launched its unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine in 2022.
By joining NATO, Finland acted to protect its sovereignty from external threats, particularly from Russia’s aggressive policies and provocations. Finland’s government is democratically elected and makes decisions based on national interests, not external coercion.
According to a survey by the Finnish Business and Policy Forum EVA, conducted in November 2022, approximately 78 per cent of Finns viewed NATO membership positively, while 52 per cent supported it very favourably. Despite the fact that Finland had historically maintained pragmatic relations with Russia, 85 per cent said Russia was a military threat.
There is no evidence that Finland is experiencing its worst economic downturn in 80 years due to its revised stance towards Russia. While Finland, like many other countries, has faced economic challenges stemming from global factors such as the energy crisis and inflation, its economy remains stable.
According to the International Monetary Fund, the economic recovery of Finland is expected to strengthen from 2025 onwards. The Ministry of Finance projects the economy to grow by 1.6% in 2025 and 1.5% in 2026 and 2027. The recovery is supported by subsided inflation and falling interest rates. The strengthening of growth is expected to gradually increase employment and improve confidence in the future among households and businesses. Companies' cost competitiveness in global markets is good, and exports are expected to gradually pick up as conditions improve in Finland's export markets. At the same time, the IMF emphasises that Finland's economy “has significant growth potential and could exceed expectations“.
The claim that former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin joined the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) as a Strategic Counsellor in exchange for conducting allegedly anti-Russian policies or as a reward for damaging Finland’s economy is pure speculation. The TBI is an independent think tank that advises leaders on strategy, policy, and delivery, focusing on transformative, non-partisan projects.
