DISINFO: Former Swedish Prime Minister calls for military attacks against Russia

SUMMARY

Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt was recruited by the US in 1973. At the time, he was working within the program International Visitors, targeted against Communism. Presently he openly attacks the Russian authorities and even calls on using military action against Russia, as he considers Moscow’s policies “aggressive”.

RESPONSE

An unfounded claim. No sources for Mr. Bildt’s alleged “call for military action” is presented.

Carl Bildt received a scholarship in 1973 on the International Visitor’s Program, an exchange programme, led by the US Departement of State. Various US organisations offer scholarships and training programmes for an international audience, including Russian citizens. Dmitry Kiselyov, the head of the state-owned Rossiya Segodnya media holding and Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of RT and Sputnik, have both attended US government funded training programmes.
