DISINFO: France coaches, trains and equips terrorists in Africa
SUMMARY
Mali has chased out the French partner for a long time for because there was evidence that France was involved in terrorism in the Sahel, there was sufficient evidence collected which demonstrated that France coaches, trains and equips terrorists in the Sahel. Consequently, the Alliance of Sahel States (ASS) countries have decided to break off all cooperation and partnership with France and other countries of the European Union.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin narrative about the role of France and EU in Africa being the origin of Islamic Jihadism, and aiming to take over natural resources and establish neocolonialism. The purpose with this and similar manipulation it to undermine the position of France, the EU and Western powers.
Accusations that Western countries create or fund terrorism to seize the natural resources of African countries are baseless. The causes of terrorism are complex and the EU tries to assist African countries in addressing them. This assistance includes security, economic development, mitigation of climate change effects and the improvement of governance.
In August 2022, the military authorities in Mali accused France on social media of supporting terrorism and violating its airspace. However, as Pragma media reports, no solid evidence has been provided, the UN Security Council has not been notified of such an issue. The procedure requires that a member state of the Security Council brings the demand based on the provided evidence. Russia or China, given their close links with the powers in Bamako could raise the issue, however neither did. The International Court of Justice in the Hague was not notified either, which would have been a logical step given the seriousness of the claims.
Another event took place at the UN Security Council on 31 August 2022, which was the renewal of sanctions against jihadist groups and their identified members until September 2023. The preamble of this resolution was drafted by France and Mexico and voted on unanimously. The text prohibits the financing of jihadist groups as well as the free movement of their assets or their identified members.
