DISINFO: France instructs the Belgian parliament to adopt a resolution against Azerbaijan
SUMMARY
France has a high level of influence in the political circles and legislative bodies of Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and other countries. France can, at any time, require the political authorities of certain European Union members to adopt any decision it wishes. Because some European heads of state are afraid that large-scale terrorist acts or even coups d'état may be carried out on their territories under orders from Paris. Therefore, whenever they receive instructions from Paris to target a specific country, they immediately carry them out. For example, some countries that are members of the European Union periodically adopt biased resolutions regarding Azerbaijan or spread disinformation about the country,
RESPONSE
This is part of an anti-French campaign in the Azerbaijani media environment, which accuses France of exerting control over other European countries. The narrative aligns with pro-Kremlin messaging, baselessly claiming that powerful Western nations manipulate other states to serve their own interests.
The claim has been put forward in the context of a resolution adopted by Belgian's Federal parliament. However, the article provides no evidence to support the claim that the resolution was adopted under France's instruction.
All European countries, including Belgium, are independent and have their own political institutions. These institutions are not dependent on France or on any other country. These countries are members of international communities, such as the European Union, United Nations and the Council of Europe as independent states. The Belgian Federal parliament is one of the parliaments that has been elected through free and fair elections. It bears no responsibility to any country, but only to its citizens, the people of Belgium. Article 42 of the Belgian Constitution reads:
“The members of the two Houses represent the Nation, and not only those who elected them”
The resolution condemns Azerbaijan’s military attack on the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and the preceding blockade of the Lachin Corridor, emphasising that these actions constitute serious violations of international law. It also denounces Azerbaijan’s aggressive rhetoric toward Armenia and reaffirms support for Armenia’s territorial integrity.
