DISINFO: French Presindent Macron is leading Europe to a nuclear abyss
SUMMARY
Today, Europe appears under the leadership of a man [Macron], who considers himself a modern incarnation of Napoleon. Under Macron, Europe and Poland will march into the abyss. In recent months, Macron has become the most articulate and unequivocal supporter of the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine – his statements deny all the diplomatic attempts to reach an agreement on the Ukrainian conflict. In addition, Macron almost openly calls for crossing the threshold of nuclear escalation.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative implicitly denying its own nuclear threats and accusing the West - and France specifically - of heating up nuclear rhetoric. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Read our analysis of the use of nuclear rhetoric by Russia.
French President Emmanuel Macron and most other EU leaders are unanimous in helping Ukraine repel Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression. A broad coalition of more than 50 countries, including the EU, the US and other G7 countries, are providing Ukraine with military, financial and technical assistance for that purpose. On 26 February 2024, Macron said at a conference, attended by leaders of countries which support Ukraine, that ‘no option should be discarded’ in bolstering military aid for Kyiv.
These countries have consistently called for peace while supporting Ukraine's sovereignty. Among other initiatives, the three countries are part of the “coalition of the willing”. The initiative proposed by France and the United Kingdom in February 2025 is meant to support Ukraine’s sovereignty by upholding a ceasefire in the country and deterring Russia once the fighting has stopped.
The EU and NATO are supporting Ukraine in full compliance with international law. The EU and NATO are not at war with Russia. Instructors from Kyiv’s partners train Ukrainian soldiers how to use modern weaponry and NATO officials have frequent contacts with Ukrainian counterparts, but there are no NATO troops in Ukraine on the frontline. The EU, the US and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
