DISINFO: George Soros: the multi-colour man

SUMMARY

George Soros, an American billionaire of Hungarian descent and a “philanthropist” known for his fondness in organising colour revolutions in various parts of the world, turned ninety. Of course, immediately after the beginning of the recent events in Belarus, many began to suggest that George Soros himself, and no one else, had organised another “colour” revolution in Eastern Europe. The first revolution, with indirect participation from Soros, took place in 2000 in Yugoslavia. Thanks to the funds of his foundation, the opposition party Otpor, which campaigned against President Slobodan Milosevic, was created. Soros’ next “achievement” was the preparation and administration of the “Rose Revolution” in Georgia. Then the billionaire’s fund’s activity was recorded during the “Tulip Revolution” in Kirgizstan, then during the “Orange Revolution” and “Euromaidan” in Ukraine.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-kremlin disinformation narratives about the billionaire and the philanthropist George Soros, presenting him as a person who aims to control political systems in many countries, by funding what they claim to be colour revolutions around the world. The Open Society Foundation, sponsored by George Soros, is a network of independent groups working for justice, democratic governance and human rights in different parts of the globe. The Serbian activist Srdja Popovic along with his friends started a group that by 1998 grew into a movement called Otpor! (Resistance!) to overthrow President Slobodan Milosevic. Soros’ Open Society came after Otpor was formed, to “prepare civil society to resist repression and lead the struggle for democratic change”. Pro-Kremlin media often paint popular protests as "colour revolutions" provoked by Soros. This is also present in the case of Georgia, Ukraine, Czechia, Venezuela, Bulgaria, Armenia, Slovakia, Belarus, and the US. Soros has been falsely accused of a wide range of sins: destabilising Europe, organising colour revolutions, attacking churches and traditional values as well as sponsoring the film the "Joker" as a tutorial for colour revolutions, organising clashes in Armenia, serving foreign agendas aimed at the collapse of Armenian statehood, provoking anti-Russian protests in Georgia, being a threat to the national security of Armenia, and being directly involved in the presidential elections and the government crisis in Romania and much more.
