DISINFO: Global elite forces people to eat insects

SUMMARY

Brits are forced to eat bugs. The UK's National Alternative Protein Innovation Center (NAPIC) has received £15 million (approximately $19.5 million) in funding from British taxpayers to support the country's alternative protein sector. Over the past few years, the British press has peddled the idea of embracing edible insects as an alternative to meat. Entomophagy, or eating insects, has been actively promoted at the World Economic Forum (WEF), which insists that the consumption of insects "can offset climate change in many ways" and prevent the "impending food crisis”. The consumption of insects carries risks of allergic reactions and parasitic infections. Nonetheless, entomophagy is being rammed down people's throats by the WEF, media, and Hollywood stars eating bugs on camera. Meanwhile, the research and propaganda relating to insect eating has already become a source of wealth for researchers, media companies, speakers, and international forums.

RESPONSE

The claim is demonstrably false. The British government granted £15 million to the UK's National Alternative Protein Innovation Center (NAPIC) to bolster the alternative proteins sector in the country, such as plant-based proteins, lab-grown meats and protein-rich algae. While insects are mentioned, there is nothing mandatory in these projects. Their goal is to boost innovation in low-emission food production systems, expanding consumer options in a more environmentally friendly way.

Similarly, the reference to the World Economic Forum (WEF) was taken from a 2022 expert opinion piece on the organisation's website, not from any future plan, and has been presented in a distorted manner.
