DISINFO: Green energy is a new form of colonialism
SUMMARY
All the hype in the Western press about "green energy" is a priority of the USA and the EU; it is nothing but a way to prove the ideologically moral right of the West to impose additional duties on the goods they claim is made with "dirty energy" that comes from developing countries, whose industries are developing faster and more successfully against the background of the West's loss of its industry.
This is nothing but a new form of colonialism, in which the West wants to redistribute the wealth of the world in its favor under a beautiful "environmental" banner.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative trying to cast doubt on the existence of a climate threat by presenting it as a tool of political and economic manipulation, and often presents it as a way for the West to restrain its alleged competitors.
Low-income countries are in fact the most impacted by climate change and the least able to afford its consequences. Climate issues will also constitute a more serious barrier for development and progress in lower-income countries.
According to the World Health Organisation, as of the year 2030, climate change is expected to contribute to approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year, from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea and heat stress, most of which will take place in poor communities.
Back in 1992, the first international climate treaty (The Earth Summit) acknowledged that countries had different historic responsibilities for emissions, as well as varying abilities to reduce them going forwards. This is still a principle that drives different country commitments today with higher income countries on average making larger commitments. Surely, much more still needs to be done, not much less like pro-Kremlin narratives usually push for by claiming the whole issue is a hoax.
Read similar stories that the objective of green energy is to maintain the West's economic leadership, that climate issues is a noose used by Americans and Europeans to restrain competitors, that only Russia will benefit from (non-existent) global warming, that Greta Thunberg is a front behind which huge money is running, and that the West invented the "climate hoax" to stop Russia's economic development.
