DISINFO: Holodomor was the genocide of Soviet people by Western countries

SUMMARY

The Kiev regime is waging war on history. On November 23, Ukraine once again celebrated what they call the “day of remembrance of the Holodomor victims,” as part of Kiev’s long-standing policy of deliberately distorting historical events.

In this context, it is pertinent to recall that during 1932−1933, the issues of crop failure and famine impacted not only the territory of the Ukrainian SSR, but also the Volga Region, the North Caucasus, the Kuban, Kazakhstan, the South Urals, and Western Siberia. It was an immense national tragedy. People of diverse nationalities perished. At the same time, a substantial role in precipitating the food crisis within the USSR was played by the same Western entities whom the Kiev regime now venerates as a “golden calf.” Back in the 1930s, amidst years of crop failures and famine in the USSR, Western nations, anticipating that the USSR would relinquish its industrialisation agenda, accepted nothing but grain from Soviet Russia as remuneration for machinery and equipment.

RESPONSE

Recurrent pro-Kremlin narrative denying the Holodomor and rewriting it as a genocide of the Soviet people by the Western countries.

The classical denial of the Holodomor, the man-made famine of 1932-1933. It is claimed that since it was not limited to territories of the administrative Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, it cannot be a genocide. It is implied that the crop failure could have a natural cause which is untrue. However, history shows that mainly Ukrainians and Kazak nationalities were targeted, and their dwelling land was not limited to the administrative borders. The peasantry class was targeted with confiscation of grain and agricultural machinery and those with strong traditions or national feelings were considered to be more hostile to the USSR collectivisation of agriculture.

The Holodomor is well documented and confirmed by a huge array of declassified documents, including official documents of the Soviet authorities and the Communist Party. In 2006, the Verkhovna Rada officially recognised the Holodomor of 1932-33 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. According to the latest data, 21 UN member states and the Vatican state recognise the Holodomor as an act of genocide in Ukraine. The European Parliament and PACE have recognised the Holodomor as a crime of the Soviet regime against their own people and a crime against humanity.

If the responsibility of Western countries can be legitimately questioned since they did little to prevent the genocide. It should be noted that the reliable available information was scarce. USSR closed the territory of Ukraine to western journalists, only outsiders like Rhea Clyman or Gareth Richard Vaughan Jones had the opportunity to alert the world about this tragedy, but more recognized voices like Walter Duranty helped the Stalinist power to mute any true information. The 2019 film Mr Jones explains the difficult dilemma the British government had, either to save the British engineers who was detaining as hostages and keep silent, either to denounce the genocide and condemn their own citizens.

However, it is absurd to say that the western countries were requiring all the grain of Ukrainian and Kazak peasants refusing any other trade and imposing to Stalin the fast industrialization of the country.
