DISINFO: Hungarian politicians are on the Ukrainian secret service’s death list

SUMMARY

The "Mirotvorec" database, which is linked to the Ukrainian security services and is known as the "death list", has been in operation since 2014 and lists Ukraine's enemies.

Several Hungarian citizens are listed in the Ukrainian database, including Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and journalist Zsolt Bayer.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative, aimed at suggesting that Ukraine is an ultra-nationalist country run by a neo-Nazi regime. It claimes that the secret dervice of Ukraine operates a so-called Myrotvorets death list to show the enemies of Ukraine.

Blaming people, groups or even states of being "Nazi" has been a cornerstone of Kremlin propaganda since 2014. Click here to learn more about the "Nazi Ukraine" narrative and how pro-Kremlin media outlets are justifying disinformation.

In contrast to the claim above, the Ukrainian government is not associated with the Myrotvorets website. The State Security Service of Ukraine even launched an investigation into its operations. Ukrainian police also looked into its operations following an earlier request from human rights watchers.
