DISINFO: If Hitler had not been defeated the EU flag would have swastikas
SUMMARY
If Germany had not invaded the Soviet Union, today, we would have lived in some kind of European Union with a flag with swastikas instead of stars.
The contemporary Polish historical policy, written by politicians from the Institute of National Remembrance, ignores the importance of the Eastern Front in the defeat of the Third Reich.
The Russians are extremely dissatisfied with the official historical policy of Poland aimed at the reduction of the crucial role of the USSR in the defeat of Nazi Germany. It is difficult to say how Europe would look today if Hitler was not defeated. Would Nazism vanish years later, or could Hitler have managed to establish some first European union under swastika?
RESPONSE
This claim is a part of the Kremlin’s historical revisionism narrative. The first part of this message is aimed at discrediting the EU as a whole – it creates an illogical connection between Hitler’s Nazi Germany and the European Union. The second part of the message promotes the idea that Poland falsifies the history of WWII for political goals.
The accusation of Nazism/ Fascism and linking the EU to Nazi Germany is a recurring technique of pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets.

The European Union was set up with the aim of ending the frequent and bloody wars between neighbours, which culminated in the Second World War. The Nazi ideology and the EU are based on opposite values and principles. Read more here. The claim that the Polish Institute of National Remembrance falsifies the history of WWII is a clear manipulation. The Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) is a Polish government institution in charge of the prosecution, archives, education and lustration, in relation to crimes against the Polish nation.
