RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation claiming that the global secret elites are exploiting the coronavirus pandemic and climate agenda to establish new forms of authoritarian or totalitarian control over the masses.
Western government’s anti-COVID measures are not aimed at surveilling and censoring and do not pursue the establishment of authoritarian social control. Emergency provisions - such as the temporary limitations of freedom of movement and social distancing, Covid health certificates - are tools that democratic governments need to use, for a limited period of time, in order to effectively protect the public health of citizens.
This message is also consistent with the pro-Kremlin narrative claiming that the West is allegedly exploiting the environmental agenda and the climate change issue for self-serving reasons. Climate change has been another target of disinformation for several years.
