DISINFO: It is not Ukraine that will strike Russian territory but those countries that permit it
SUMMARY
It is not Ukraine that will strike deep into Russian territory, but those countries that permit it, which significantly changes the situation. Targeting and other operations are carried out not by the Ukrainian military, but by military specialists from Western countries, which radically changes the way they participate in the Ukrainian conflict.
RESPONSE
Pro-Kremlin disinformation claim, alleging that the West is involved in war in Ukraine, portraying the conflict as a proxy war against Russia, targeting international aid for Ukraine’s self-defence against Russia’s invasion. This disinformation narrative aims to deflect Russia’s responsibility for its unprovoked military aggression.
This claim was made in the context of the US approval for Ukraine's use of the US long-range weapons inside Russia.
Ukraine is receiving weapons from its allies solely to restore its internationally recognised 1991 borders. Western nations have worked tirelessly to prevent the war and are now responding to Russia’s full-scale invasion. Ukraine is defending its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national identity against Russian aggression, with the decision to do so made solely by its legitimate leaders and citizens.
The war in Ukraine is not a war by Western countries against Russia. Ukraine is not fighting on behalf of any foreign government or organisation. Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically elected president and parliament. The country's sovereignty has been violated only as a result of continuous acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces since 2014, culminating with a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine starting on 24 February 2022.
Ukrainian officials and analysts see the U.S. authorisation as a crucial move, allowing Ukraine to target key military installations in Russia, particularly in the Kursk region, where new threats are emerging.
Not only Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, by the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
