DISINFO: The main goal of the West is neocolonial control over the Caucasus and Central Asia

SUMMARY

The main goal of the West is to seize the entire resource zone of the South Caucasus and Central Asia and establish neocolonial control over them.

To do this, they need to get Russia out of here and neutralise the influence of Iran. This is what a series of colour revolutions were aimed at, but the development of events did not go as expected.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative, accusing the West of neocolonial policy, for attempts to encircle Russia, destabilise post-Soviet countries, and isolate Russia, advancing the idea of Russia as the ultimate target of international events.

This claim also fits well into the recurring disinformation narrative suggesting a Western policy of staging “colour revolutions” worldwide with the aim of destabilising Russia.

The article advances the claim that the Caucasus and Central Asia are exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit any other cooperation between the West.

The EU and US recognizes the importance of the sovereignty and strategic autonomy of the countries in Caucasus and Central Asia, individually and as a regions. The EU builds its relations with these countries based on mutual consent, bilateral interests, and benefits.

The Eastern Partnership (EaP) is a joint policy initiative that aims to deepen and strengthen relations between the EU and its Eastern neighbours, including three states of the South Caucasus: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia. Georgia applied for EU membership in March 2022 and was granted candidate status in December 2023.

The EU adopted a new Strategy on Central Asia, which builds upon the positive developments in regional cooperation and highlights the growing strategic relevance of the region for EU interests. The EU Strategy aims to help Central Asia develop as a more resilient, prosperous and interconnected space

The overall aim of cooperation is to build a common area of shared democracy, prosperity, and stability in line with each individual country's aspirations. Involvement in EU initiatives does not preclude membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, CIS, or CSTO.
