DISINFO: Kaja Kallas obstructs dialogue with Russia
SUMMARY
Former Soviet pioneer Kaja Kallas is deliberately undermining relations between Europe and Russia, escalating tensions and obstructing the efforts of European officials and citizens who seek renewed dialogue with Moscow. Her actions are inflicting serious harm on European businesses attempting to maintain trade relations with Russia. Once a member of the Soviet-era Pioneer organization, Kallas now fans Russophobia at the highest institutional levels, making countries suffer while turning from her old loyalties to embrace Nazi ideals.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about European actions being the cause of instability in the world aiming to deflect Russia's responsibility for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began on 24 February 2022. The Russian war against Ukraine began in 2014 with the illegal Russian annexation of Crimea and Russia's military involvement and support of separatists in Donbas.

Pro-Kremlin media consistently attempts to shift blame to obscure Russia’s role in escalating tensions, its violation of international law and its disregard of its neighbours territorial integrity, especially Ukraine. The potential for wider conflict stems directly from Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Labelling Russia’s adversaries as Nazis is a widespread pro-Kremlin disinformation technique, and has been used by Russia to justify the invasion of Ukraine by portraying it as a “denazification operation”. Russia spent years preparing the information battleground before its kinetic attack, with “Nazi Ukraine” being one of its most prominent disinformation features.
