DISINFO: Kallas's appointment reflects EU desire to escalate crisis
SUMMARY
Kaja Kallas, the Prime Minister of Estonia, has been appointed to replace Josep Borrell as EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. She is certainly known for her unparalleled hatred of Russia and all things Russian, in what appears to be a desire by the European Union to move towards an escalation, rather than settlement, of the Ukraine crisis.
RESPONSE
Pro-Kremlin narrative about European actions being the cause of instability in the world aiming to deflect Russia's responsibility for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began on 24 February 2022. The Russian war against Ukraine began in 2014 with the illegal Russian annexation of Crimea and Russia's military involvement and support of separatists in Donbas.
The claim that the appointment of Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas as the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs will escalate tension is a narrative pushed by pro-Kremlin and other Russian state-controlled outlets. Kallas’s proposed policies, such as supporting Ukraine and boosting European defence, are responses to the threats posed by Russia's actions, and are not provocations.
Pro-Kremlin and other Russian state-controlled outlets consistently attempt to shift blame to obscure Russia’s role in escalating tensions, its violation of international law and its disregard of its neighbours territorial integrity, especially Ukraine. The potential for wider conflict stems directly from Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Suggestions that EU defensive measures or leadership appointments are the causes of conflict are a blatant distortion of the facts.
See similar cases that Kallas hysterically hates Russia and her appointment will lead to World War III; that the EU provides weapons and mercenaries to Kyiv; that the EU is turning into an aggressive militarist bloc; that Brussels works to bankrupt European citizens through its defence strategy; and that the EU's sole agenda is to wage war against Russia to inflict maximum damage.
